MISHAP TO DIVER. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 20. At the carnival held by the North Canterbury Amateur Swimming Club at Rangiora last evening A. Benzie, one of tbe competitors in the high dive, struck the bottom of the baTi with his head and broke his nose.— P.A.
JAPANESE WIN AUSTRALIAN CHAMfTOXSHIP RACES. TITLES GO TO COMMONWEALTH SWIMMERS. MELBOURNE, Jan. 20. The lOCyds national swimming championship of Australia resulted: Takaishi (Japan) 1, Henry (New South Wales) 2, Grier (Queensland) 3. Won by three yards in -54 2-osecs. As Takaishi is not a resident the title goes to Henry. 100yds backstroke championship: Saitoh (Japan) 1. Boast (Queensland) 2, Johansen (Victoria) 3. Won by four yards in 1.10 4-> (Australian record). The title gees to Boast.— U.P.A.
