GARDEN FETE
IN AID OF Mc-K Alf BATH FUND. PROVES VERY SUCCESSFUL. Increasing interest is being evinced in the .progress of the campaign for funds for the MacKae Baths, and yesterday afternoon there was a large attendance at the fete held on grounds kindly lent by Mr Vincent Barker. The function was a distinct success and the various novelty stunts presented to the visitors proved most popular. _ ... Committees watching the interests of the queen aspirants were allotted space on the grounds, and the crowds around the entrance to the tents and stalls were true indication as to then popularity. A bright and breezy programme provided by a troupe of merrots under the direction of Mr Fred Availchop proved a feature of the tunction and thev were heartily applauded at the conclusion of every turn. The troupe included, m addition to Air Wauciiop, Airs Alainland Foster, Alisses Nina Alurphy, .Clare, Ross, Sherrilf (2), Drown, Bam (2), and Rowlands (2), and Messrs AV - lbignell, H. -Johns, lloss ; H, and L* Cato and Stewart. Ail extensive system ot lighting made the scene on the grounds at ni»ht, when the fete was continued, a "very pleasing and beautiful one, hut tiie * unfortunate occurrence oi drizzling rain compelled cancellation of the ‘out-door amusements. Alter the visitors had enjoyed the view or the lighted garden for a time, the lio-hts "were switched off- Dancing in Air Barker’s ballroom was very well patronised, as was also a further performance by the ‘.‘Breezy Buskers. In the course of the evening, AH H F Forster, president of the executive. publicly thanked Mr Vincent Barker for his kindness in allowing them the use of his grounds and also for a very generous donation he had made to the funds to compensate tor the smaller attendance caused by the nin Air Forster also heartily thanked Air -Morrow’s ‘‘Charleston Five” band which supplied the .dance music free of charge, Messrs Crimp and Chrisp for the use of pianos, the manv willing helpers and also the public who had turned out on such a l, a d night to help along the fund.
