MAGISTRATES' COURTS.

CHRISTCHURCH. Wednesday, March 31. [Before G. L. Mellish, Esq., R.M.] INSULTING FEMALES IN THE PUBLIC STREETS. Samuel Cook was charged with this offence. Constable Eares stated that shortly after ten o'clock last evening the defendant stopped a female and wanted her to go up the road with him. The female who had been insulted was called, but did not appear. His Worship said he would give the defendant the benefit of the female not appearing, and discharge him, but he would advise defendant to be careful in future. DRUNK AND DISORDERLY. Francis Plummer for this offence was fined 10s. ILLEGALLY ON THE PREMISES. Alfred Walker was charged with being illegally on the premises of Mr Thompson. The defendant had been found in a stable in Colombo street, the property of Mr Thompson.

His Worship said as nothing was known of defendant, he would dismiss the case. John Hunter was charged with being illegally on the premises of Mr H. B. Lane. Defendant had been found the worse for drink lying in a shed in Lichfield street. Defendant said he was short of the price of a bed, and had been shown into the shed by a man who said he was Mr Lane. His Worship fined defendant os. CHILD DESERTION. Agnes Grwatkin was called on remand with deserting her child. Defendant had beea remanded from Dunedin, but had been admitted to bail. She did not appear. His Worship adjourned the case for a week. BREACH OF CROWN GRANTS ACT. The following case for not taking up Crown grants was determined:— Samuel Greer, ordered to pay £2 17s 6d and costs.
