COMMERCIAL.
Messrs 11. Matson and Co report on the live stock market, Ac. for the week ending Saturday, October 30th-At the Market Yards on Wednesday, about 350 head of cattle and 3700 sheep came forward for the week. There was an average attendance of buyers, and although biddings came slowly, prices were slightly better for all classes than on the preceding week. Our sales were for Sir Cracroft Wilson, Messrs Gould and Cameron, Chamberlain and Hartnell, P. Henly, P. Muir, J. P. O’Callaghan, T. Rowe, Keith, sen, D. Pfrtchett, J. Hurse, Withal, J. Jones, Dillow, Galletley, Llll, Bassingthwaite, Lawry, G. Dickinson, Marsden, J. Corr, J, Jackson, Davis, James Hell, J. Dicken, Marlin, Monk, W. Jackson. J. Kinley, M. Jones, Pryde, and others. In cattle, we yarded and sold 205 head of all classes. Fat cattle, at from £7 15s, £8 10s, £0 ss, to £l3 10s per head. Stores sold freely at very full rates ; the prices realised were satisfactory to vendors. In sheep, our sales were 2576, viz, 130 shorn cross-brcds at Bs, for Sir C. Wilson ; 202 merino wethers In wool at 13s 3d and 13s (id, and 240 ewes at 8s 9d per head, for Messrs Gould and Cameron, from Springfield station; 353 of various descriptions, say merino wethers 12s, hoggets at ‘Js 6d to 13s 6d. for Mr P. Muir; 65 hoggets, at 7s 6d to 7s 9d, for Mr P. Henley; 146 merino wethers, shorn, very good quality and weights, at 6s 3d to 6s 6d : 196 shorn cross-brcds do, 9s 6d to 9s 9d, for Chamberlain and Hartnell; 105 do, at 10s and 10s 6d, for Mr T. Rowe ; 145 cross-bred ewes, with lambs, in wool, at los, for Mr Keith; 635 merino weihers, in wool, at 8s 3d, 9s, 10s 3d, 10s 9d, and Us per head, for Mr J P. O’Callaghan; 105 shorn cross-breds, at 8s and 8s 9d, for Mr D. Patehett; 150 woolly sheep.at lls 9d per head ; also about 63 fat lambs, at prices ranging from 4s to 10s. We find that for really pood fat lambs there is a demand, whilst for the ordinary and inferior descriptions, which constituted the bulk generally to hand, there is none. Country Sales —On Monday we held a sale of household furniture, Ac, Ac, on account of the trustee in the estate of thelate Cap t Charles worth, when capital prices were obtained for the majority of articles sold. On Friday, at Leeston, we attended at the monthly sale, and yarded 200 sheep and 151 head of cattle, for Messrs C. T. Dudley, J. L. Hendley, Mathews, JLudeman, Brown, O’Boyle, Stapleton, Gorman, J. Burns, McPherson, Anderson, Lockhead, Halliday, Belton, and others. The sheep were not sold, but ail tlie cattle and pigs were disposed of at highly satisfactory prices, the cattle averaging all round £6 per head. On Tuesday we held a clearing sale on account of Mr George Dalton, at Lincoln. There was a large attendance, and full values realised, every lot changing hands, with the exception of the threshing machine. On Thursday, at wool stores, a large supply ol sheepskins, hides, and tallow came forward, when every line was disposed of at prices, upon the whole, satisfactory. In some cases the values realised showed a drop on the rates of last sale day, whilst in others these were exceeded. Best butchers’ merinos, from 5s 9d to 6s 5d ; crossbreds, from 6s 9d to 7s 6d; lambskins, is eaclt; pelts, 4d all round: salted hides, under 401bs, at 4jd ; over 401bs, at 4d ; green, under 401bs, at4Jd; over 401hs, 3Jd; calfskins, sound,; at 7d per lb ; unsound, s£d per lb ; rough fat, 2Jd per lb. Land—ln laud, we have sold during the week 120 acre-farm for Mr W. Birdliug, at Tai Tapu, to Mr Giltnour, at £I6BO cash ; and 52-acre farm, at Southbridge, for Mr J. Watson, to Mr John Smith, of Bellefield, for £728 cash.
