CHINESE QUESTION.
POSITIVELY INFORMED OF REJECTION RIOTS AT CANTON. Pekin, Sept 7. The American Ambassador at Pekin has been positively informed that the Exclusion treaty has been rejected by the Chinese Government. It is considered probable that the treaty will be accepted, subject to modification. Canton, Sept 7. The passing of the Chinese Exclusion Bill by the American Congress created great excitement in this city, and serious riots broke out. The residence of the American Minister was attacked by the Chinese. The authorities took prompt measures to quell the disturbance. Hong Kong, Sept It is believed here that the rumored edict ordering all Chinese to returnghome is a mere canard.
