Children’s Carnival.

On Saturday afternoon a children’s skating carnival took place in the Theatre Royal, the whole affair being eminently successful. The hall was decorated with evergreens and flags, aod the place being darkened and then illuminated with gas, so that it might well be imagined as a gay evening assembly. The dresses of the children were exceedingly pretty, and with their bright, happy faces the scene was made one of a fascinating nature, occasionally relieved by a little grim humor. In point of attendance the success was complete, as nearly all the available room was occupied. As the White Dove Miss Sunderland certainly looked the prettiest among the girls, but none of the o hers seemed to approach Dotty Johnston (Flower girl) in graceful skating, or Nelie Scott (plain dress). Miss Tucker (Highland lassie) looked exceedingly well, and little Cushla Boylan (Gipsy) cannot be overlooked. On the boys’ side Master Chambers (masher king) threw all his companions in the shade. His get up was first-class, with bell topper, moustachios, cane and everything complete. If he did not capture the hearts of the girls he certainly did of those ladies who had reached or outgrown their ’teens, and the remarks “ Isn’t he a little dear,” etc., were too gushingly given to admit of repetition. In skating Donald Porter (Turk) was unapproachable. his easy, gliding movements making him the admiration of all who knew anything about skating. The following weie among those present
