Two Horrible Murders.
Melbourne, Nov 13. A widow named Doyle, residing at Dawson, near Hayfield, murdered her two children by cutting their throats with a carving knife, between 3 and 4 o’clock on Monday morning. She afterwards attempted to commit suicide by cutting her own throat, and now lies in a precarious state. The e’dest child was eleven years old, and the youngest nine months old. The woman Doyle was brought into Sale Hospital. She was attended by Dr McLean, who is <-f opinion that she will live. She had four children, including the two murdered. Two of them were sleeping in another room at the time of the murder, with a sister of Mrs Doyle. The reason the woman gave for murdering the children was that she thought it was the best thing to do to send them to heaven. Her husband, who was a farmer at Rawson, died about six or seven months ago, and left her in fairly good circumstances. She is about thirty-two years of age. [A recent cable message announced that the unfortunate woman succumbed to her self-inflicted injuries.]
