Happy Tologa.

Many townspeople imagine that life in these out districts must be a continual round of “ weary dreariness,” but they must not make too sure of that, for when Tologa people participate in enjoyment it is the genuine feeling that makes everyone happy. On New Year’s -Eve a grand fancy dress ball was held here (Tologa) when all combined with a kindly unanimity, which could well be imitated in larger places, to pass a merry and sooiable evening. Some very pretty costumes were worn on the occasion, but as our correspondent may visit Tologa again, it would be indiscreet on his part to make any distinction, espjeia'ly where all looked so well. A side splitting faroa was wall acted, after refreshments had been indulged in, and the New Year was welcomed by a grand display of fireworks—dancing was then resumed and k’pt up with great spirit -until 530 a.m. After a few hours of rest, a number of outdoor sports were indulged in, the tug of war between natives and Europeans perhaps exciting most interest, but as the zealous partisans of either >arty could not refrain from lending a helping hand to their representatives, the result was somewhat mixed. Everything passed oS with great goo! temper and all seemed bsntjan making the first day of tha New Year a happy one.
