A TIMBER TRADE WITH AUSTRALIA. London, Jan. 15. At a meeting of the British Borneo Trading Company, it was decided to open up a timber trade with Australia. THE PARNELL COMMISSION. The Standard strongly protests against protracting the sittings of the Parnell Commission by enquiring into the circumstances of the various cases of outrage aud boycotting in Ireland, the evidence in which, from the similarity of the cases, is becoming, hackneyed and wearying in the extreme. “ That such outrages were committed,” says the S andard, “is not denied by the Parnellites, but the Commission is only concerned in discovering the complicity of the Irish members in the acts of outrage.” A GOLD-MINING SYNDICATE. Au English-French syndicate has acquired 200 square miles of auriferous country in Dutch Borneo. Several Australian mining capitalists are interested in the undertaking. GERMANY AND THE SUGAR BOUNTIES CONVENTION. Berlin, Jan. 15. From papers presented to the Diet, it appears that Germany’s adherence to the Sugar Bounties Convention is contingent on England excluding the importation of sugars from countries not participating in the Convention. ARRIVAL OF COSSACKS. Suakin, Jan. 15. Two hundred Cossacks, ostensibly bound for Obok on board an Austrian steamer, have arrived here. They were closely “ shadowed” by an Italian warship, which dropped anchor shortly after their arrival. SKIRMISH WITH REBELS, A skirmish with the rebels took place today, but the latter.were repulsed. There were no casualties on the side of the British. THE PANAMA CANAL. Washington, Jan. 15. The Senate has passed a Bill which will enable the Panama Canal Company to go into liquidation if necessary, without being forced into bankruptcy. . PAPAL GIFTS. Rome, Jan. 15. The Popo has presented gift’, valued at £lO,OOO, to many dignitaries of the Roman Catholic Church in Ireland.
