Does the Boot Pinch?

[TO THE EDITOR.] Sir,—Not being a shareholder of the South Pacific Oil Co., I may be excused for expressing a little jubilance at the new call that has been made, and at the prospect of it having actually been decided to hold another meeting of local shareholders. The result will no doubt be a ratification of the votes of confidence, etc., of auld lang syne, and an effusively expressed approval of the action of the Directors in making the call. All this will read very well, especially when it is remembered that His Worship the Mayor of this distinguished Borough of Gisborne will be in the chair. It is the usual course to turn the tables at every meeting, but how is it going to be done this time? Whose turn is it now? It is just as well they should not be allowed to rest for too long, or they might get to disregard the expressions of opinion altogether. Seriously speaking, I would like to know how much longer this agony is to be continued. If the local shareholders have any feeling of loyalty towards the place in which they live they ought to be able to do something that will put an end to this everlasting dilly-dally, which, however amusing or otherwise it may be to the shareholders, does the place a great deal of harm. If the shareholders are content as shareholders to do nothing further than pay calls they ought as residents of the district to get this uncertainty put at rest,—l am etc., CITIZEN.
