SHIPPING DISASTER.
London, April 15. There has been a terrible steamboat collision off Boston, on the coast of Lincolnshire, between the steamers Libra and Staincliff. The former sank, and the latter is much damaged,
The Grimsby trawl smack Charles H. Spurgeon has been towed into Grimsby a complete wreck, with the dead body of the cook on board, and having lost the second hand at sea. The vessel shipped a heavy sea, which carried overboard tho second hand, Allen Snell, aged 30, married. A rope was thrown him, and he grasped it, when another terrific sea overwhelmed the vessel, and the crew rushed below. When they returned they found Snell had lost his hold of the rope, and was drowned. The vessel was now dismasted and a complete wreck, with the cabin full of water. The crew were in a most deplorable condition, and the same evening the cook, James Harrison (18), a native of Leicester, died from cold and exposure. He had received terrible injuries during the gale. The crew were so exhausted that they could not move the body, and the wreck drifted about with the poor boy’s corpse stretched on the deck and the half-dead crew crouched around. At last they were sighted by the Grimbsy smack John and Ann, which went to their assistance, and sent two men on board, who put the body below. The wreck was taken in tow and brought into Grimbsy.
