London, April 15. Sir R. E. Webster, Attorney General, was accorded an enthusiastic reception at a meeting of members of the Bar.
It is expected that the Boulanger Judicial Committee will give in their report to the Senate in a month’s time.
April 16. The Rev. Mr Fraser will not proceed to Australia to attend the Presbyterian Conference as he had at first intended.
Mr Goechen, in his budget speech, said the consumption of drink had not increasecT in proportion to the increase in population. There was a notable decline in the consumption of spirits, and a very heavy falling away in wines. Messrs Bruston and Stokes, the Melbourne cyclists, have arrived at Stamboul. They have travelled 4000 miles, and purpose proceeding on their bicycles through Italy and France. They are tonring round the world. From Bombay they took the steamer to Egypt.
News from Berlin asserts that Lord Salisbury refused to allow Australia to send delegates to the Conference on the Samoan question.
