[FBOM OUB OWN COBBESPONDENT-] Mahia, yesterday, The inquest on the man Gollan. who it is alleged was shot by a Maori or halfcaste named McQuarrie, and burned in his where at Mahia Peninsula, is still in progress, but it should be finished to night.

A great deal of evidence is being taken in connection with the case. The principal portion of Reihana’s( the Maori lad), evidence was that he was near Gollan’s whare on the night of the murde-, and heard Gollan cry cut “Jesus I Jesus I” twice. Shortly after that he heard a shot fired. He knew G Allan's voice perfectly well. Napier, last night. The News learns that on the morning after the five, the first man to visit the whare of the murdered man found Gollan’s deg sitting near the charred remains of his bodv, crying piteously. A search amongst the debris was made by the police, with the result that a silver ring, made out of a shilling, was found. This ring was known to have been worn by tbe deceased on the day before. The cue against McQuarrie is very strong.
