COUNTY COUNCIL.

Tux County Couneil mat yesterday after, noon. Present—Councillors Gray (in the eheir), Stubbs, Murphy, Orr, Tuohy, King, and Clark,

Messrs Hatton end Devery wrote asking the Council to enlarge the Kaiteratahi drain. —The Engineer said that if the settlers intended draining the swamp the present culvert would be too small. He estimated the coat of a 4ft culvert ’at £2o.—-It was agreed that if the settlers attended to the drainage the Council would put in aoulvert, J. Walsh wrote asking the Council to fence the outlet drain through his pioperty st Makauri.—Received.

D. Malone applied for one month’s overtime to finish his contract at Haiti.—lt was agreed to leave the matter over until the contract was completed. Jones and O'Donnell wrote asking for five weeks' extension of time nn their stone contract.—Agreed to consider the application when tbe contract was finished. A. C. Arthur wrote asking the Council to give 1500 rails for the purpose of extending the telephone line at Waiapn.—After some discussion, it was ultimately agreed to vote £2OO towards the work; which amount would be charged to the Waiapu Riding, as the Council might have some further use for the rails.

A. J. O’Neil wrote applying for an extension of time on hie Puatae contract.—Received. H. Morse wrote asking for a rebate on his slaughter house license, as three months of the year had elapsed before he took out hie license.—lt was carried that a third of the fee be allowed for the time lost. With reference to the Hangaroa Road, the Engineer explained that he was under a misapprehension when be stated that there was a sum of money which could not. be spent on that road. The money had to be paid to the Patutahi Boad District.

The following tenders were received:— Mahia Road.—P. McLoughlin, £4l (accepted) ; E. O’Dwyer, £4110s; A. Doherty, £54.

Waimata Road.—M. Boland—(A) £63105, (B) £59 18s, (C) £2B 10a ; Bell and Roe, (A) £64 6s, (B) £55 18s, (C) £9 13s ; Jones and O'Donnell, (C) £26 ; G. Moore, (A) £7O, (B) £5B, (C) £29. Cr Gray proposed, and Cr Stubbs seconded, that Jones and O’Donnell’s tender be accepted at £26 for contract (C ) The other sections were not let.

Cr King proposed and Cr Clark seconded that the Council vote £3O for the proposed track on the inland Waimata track.—An amendment proposed by Cr Tuohy and seconded by Cr Stubbs that the Council give £4O, which was available for the work, was lost, and the motion was put and carried. The following accounts were passed for payment:-Jones and O’Donnell, £2; R. Knox, £4O; P. McLoughlin, £246 6s 6d ; G. Bell, £6O; A. J. O’Neil, £95; G. Moore, £l4a; Taylor and Brownlow, £l2 12s ; J. Trimmer, £5 5s ; J. A. Harding, £3; Engineer's sundries, £6 7s ; A. R. Muir, £6 4s ; J. B. Neilson, £8; J. Bidgood, 15s; Jones and O'Donnell, £2O; C. Young, £1 16s; H. Hamblett, £1 16 s; Salaries, £45 18s 8d; Lyon and Blair, £1 Is 6d, The Chairman drew attention to the rapid growth of the bathurst burr, which was in some places very bad.—The Engineer asked permission to be allowed to have the burr out off the Ormond-Waimata Road.—The Engineer was also instructed to visit the Native cultivations at Te Aral, where the burr is said to be very thick. It Was agreed to call tenders for maintenance work on the Waiapu inland road. Cr Stubbs gave notice of motion in regard to the resolution re telegraph poles.
