It is stated that in future the V.R.C. has determined to have nothing whatever to do with pony racing. Escutcheon has been purchased by Mr Powell, a Wanganui sportsman, for the sum of £175.

The sum of £,f,3Tl was passed through the totalisators during the late Easter Meeting of the Auckland Racing Club. N' t bad J The Victorian Racing Club have decided to increase the added money of the Melbourne Cup to 5,000 sovs., with a sweepstake of 50 sovs. each.

The well-known sporting writer 'Centaur’ in his remarks on the Tradesmen’s Handicap, at the late Easter Meeting of tbe Auckland Racing Club says :—Balista and Escutcheon were the favorites on the machine, while Audacity, by his good looks, gained many admirers.

The following very very mixed paragraph appears in a late number of the New York Clipper :—The Melbourne Cup was run for over a distance of two miles at the course of the Australian Jockey Club, near Melbourne, Aus., on November 6, and was won by D. S. Wallace’s Menton, by Swiveller, 4yrs, 1151 b, in 3.30 J. The odds against the horse were 7 to 1, Chicago being the favorite at 4 to 1.
