Death of Mr Hislop—Accident to Dr Pollen.
Mr John Hislop, proprietor of ths Bang* tire Hotel, Ksr*ka, died *t his residence yesterday afternoon, from the effects of * paralytic stroke, whioh had lately been * great affliction upon him. He had besn fa the Hospital for a few weeks, and (so we ar* informed) some busybody who will perhaps now bo very sorry for whet ho did wrote to the Licensing Bench, complaining that the license* was absent from hie premlee*. Mr Hislop wm then conveyed back to the Karaka, about a fortnight ago, being in a pitiful state, but the end cam* *t iMt, and th* poor man's misery gave place to deeth, Mr Hislop was very much liked by those who knew him. and the occurrence will be greatly regretted by a large number of friends. He was at one time barman for Mr Page, at the Masonic Hotel, and subsequently took charge of the Muonic Hotel at Napier. He had been the licensee ot th* Rangatlra Hotel lines it was relinquished by Mr Parker;
Dr, Pollen wm riding out yesterday after, noon, having received a oall to attend Mr J. Hislop, Th* Doctor had got m far aa Kaiteratahi, when he received word that the patient was dead, and as Dr. Pollan required to get back to town again he returned. When riding put tbe Ormond Hotel hie bore* stumbled, fell, and rolled over, th* rider being unable to extricate himself from his perilous position. He wm brought into town, and attended by Dr Innes. Last night he suffered intense pain, but though the injuries are of a very painful nature, Dr Innes says that further than that there is no danger, no bones being broken. He thinks that Dr Pollen will be able to get about again in * few daya.
