A Frightful Accident.

Ckbistckusch, Thursday. A young man named Andrew Johnston, aged 19, met his death in Lyttelton yesterday at the foundry of Messrs J. Anderson and Co. He was keeping some chains from being jammed between a truck of ccal which i«as homing through ths yard and the end of a large boiler which was in course of construction for the Templeton freezing works, when somehow or other he got his head between the truck and the rim of the boiler, the result being the complete crushf- ing of the back port of his skull, causing almost instantaneous death. Dr. G. A. Lewis, who was passing the yard at the time, was called in, but the young fellow Was too far gone for the doctor to render any effectual aid. Johnston made no cry at the time of the accident, but a man named s W. Cliff, who was working on the top of he boiler, say? he heard a gurgling noise, on looking down he saw deceased t«Gvaen the truck and the boiler. The deceased resided at Sydenham. His father is a carpenter there. The young man had been three months in Lyttelton *7th Messrs Anderson.
