Before taking any further evidence Mr Bunny, who appeared for Chemis, suggested that the jury should return an open verdict, leaving fnrther investigation for the R.M. Court on Friday, to which day the prisoner was remanded. The jury then returned the following verdict—“ That Thomas Hawkins was wilfully and deliberately murdered on the private road leading from Kaiwarra to his residence, but there was no evidence to show by whom, ” 7
Gbsymouth, last night. The thfeatening barometoric indications culminated last night in a heavy Westerly gale, with rain, thunder, and vivid lightning. The sea is most exceptionally rough.
