On the afternoon of the Governor’s departure from the Wairarapa, after the concluaion of the shooting expedition, a little incident occurred on the Featherston railway platform which is thus described in the Wairarapa Star The Hon. John Martin, and his guest, the Governor, were promenading the platform awaiting the ' special ’ which was to convey the party to Wellington, when a men evidently in an elevated condition insisted upon shaking hands with the honourable John. The latter, somewhat disconcerted, repudiated the acquaintanceship, and in awe-inspiring tones whispered in the man’s ear the name and rank of his companion. The communication only increased the man’s pertinacity, for he forthwith commenced in loud tones to enlarge upon the enormity of the offence of “ forgetting old pals,” to the amusement cf hfs Excellency and the bystanders, and to the evident chagrin of the wearer of the white vest, whose countenance bore unmistakable traces of anger and resentment at the intrusion.
