What, we should like to know, is intended to bo done this year in regard to an Agricultural and Pastoral Show? Is the sluggishness of past years to still remain a murky veil over the agricultural and pastoral industries in the district ? There are many causes to whioh the prevailing lethargy may be attributed, but surely there are no obstacles which caußol be OVfircomo. The initiatory steps

should already hive been taken if it is intended to do anything in the approaching season, but there is still ample time, and as lhere is a Society in existence it sho lid come to some decision on the matter. If things cannot be carried out on the magnificent scale that we should like, there might nt lenst be seme modified arrangements made. When racing and such sport continues to flourish in the district, it is not very creditable to us if an agricultural show cannot be held once within three years. Even an annual flower show is in Gisborne a thing which it seem« must not occur again. Perhaps our Uste of the beautiful has become so blunted that there is no desire to encourage those things that are yearned fir by every r<fined nature. But the useful is of greater importance, and everything ought to be done that will encourage efforts to obtain the best value from the land. If the Society cannot see its way clear to again hold a show, the farmers on a email scale might very well take up the matter, and if nothing greater can bo attempted, arrange for an exhibition of farm produce.
