COLONIAL TELEGRAMS.

[mon OUB OWN CORRESPONDENTS.) Wellington, last night. Mr Graham, Official Assignee, has been appointed assistant R M., without a salary, the work being too much for one man. Tha charge against Waatara Wi, for the murder of Turanga Karauria, will be tried at Wellington next October. A fatal accident happened at the Heads on Saturday evening, by which Chief Pilot Simms, and two of the pilot boat’s crew— Herbert Cox and Robert Tait—-lost their lives, The ship Pleione signalled lor a pilot, and Simms put off with a crew ot four, but owing to the southerly wind blowing was unable to make any way. Shortly after, the steamer Herald came up and took the pilot boat in tow, but she yawed and capsized. AU the men got on the bottom of tha boat, but she righted, and they were thrown off. They, however, got into the boat again, and lines were thrown to them from the Herald, but only two of them held on. The other three released their grip, and were washed away. The bodies have not yet been recovered. The appointment of Mr Conolly to the vacancy on the Supreme Court Bench has been most favorably received. He will be sworn in on Friday, before Judge Richmond, at Nelson, and then proceed to Auckland, where he will enter upon his duties on Monday.
