London, August 24. Mr Dawes has proposed to the Directors of the New Zealand Shipping Company to write £3 per share off its capital. The Porte desiring to secure the friend ship of the Khurds in event of war with Russia, has issued instructions to the Turkish Governors of Armenian districts to protect the Khurds from hostility which their inroads and outrages in Armenia provoked. Their instructions are causing great alarm among the Christian population, who are suffering severely from the lawlessness of the Khurds. The strike among the dock laborers and stevedores is extending. The P. and O. Company have arranged for their steamers to discharge cargoes at Antwerp and Southampton. German New Guinea has been created a Crown Colony of Germany. The Belgian Government have agreed to subsidise a German Australian Tine of steamers.
