FOOTBALL.

Napier, last night. Great interest is taken in the football match, Auckland v. Hawke's Bay, which comes off tomorrow afternoon on the recreation ground. Ths Auckland representatives passed through Gisborne yesterday, and iu the afternoon they were taken up to Captain Tucker's paddock, where a scratch match was arranged between fifteen Aucklanders and a Gisborne team which, however, included the extra players who accompany the Auckland fifteen, A large number of epneatora w»re present and a good game ended in favor cf the visitors by eight points to nil, their passing tactics being especially good. The visitors expressed themselves much pleased at tbeir reception ; they bad dinner on shore, and left the wharf shortly after seven, their departure being the occasion of much cheering on both sides. The short time they were in Gisborne they created a very favorable impression. From some remarks made in our last issue the infereno* might be drawn that the Gisborne footballers were not prepared to play a match with the Auckland representatives. That certainly wae not so, for Mr Suite did his best to get a match arranged, but in the circumstances the Aucklanders did not feel prepared to ’give a definite answer, and seeing that many of our best players live at the Waimata and other distant places, a thoroughly representative team could not be got together without fair notice. The following team represents the Turanganui Club in a match with the Gymnasium Club ; — Fol! back, A, Thompson; threequarters : Dodds, Burns, L. Maude; halves 1 Snow and H. E. Maude ; forwards: Wade, Steele, Langford, King, Skipworth, DeCosta, J. Johnstone, Robinson, Branson (2), G. Johnstone. Emergencies : R. Johnstone, P. Reed. Players to roll up at 2.30 p.tn. sharp
