FOOTBALL.

AUCKLAND V. HAWKE’S BAY. Napibb, last night. The Auckland football team were received, on arrival on Saturday morning, by the members of the local Rugby Union, and driven to the Criterion. After breakfast they had some practice and were then driven round the district in a big open drag provided by the Rugby Union. Play commenced about 2.45 on the Recreation Ground, and resulted in a win for the visitors, after a tough struggle, by eight points (five tries and one goal) to three tries. The gams was a very fast one, tut Hawke's Bay was evidently ovennatohed, owing partly to the weakness of our own backs, and partly to the splendid passing tactics of their opponents. There was much interest evinced by the publics, about 1509 persons being present, notwithstanding that the defeat of the local team was considered to be a foregone conclusion. The Aucklanders were driven to the Criterion after the game, and about 5.30 re-embarked on the Wqihorst for South.
