TURANGANUI V. GYMNASIUM.

The above match took place in Captain Tucker's paddock on Saturday last and resulted in a win for Gymnasium by two goals to a try. First Spell.—Turanginui kicked off and for the first ten minutes kept the ball within their opponents' twenty-five, when Staite, by a goad run, carried the leather well up the field and relieved his side for the time being. However, Turanganui soon returned it, and by getting on a splendid rush, aided by good passing, the result was Gymnasium forced down. The ball was soon in play again, and the Turanganui forwards playing a better combined game, got the ball very close to their opponente’ goal, when a pass to DaOosta enabled that player to get in and score a try. The kick by Langford at goal was a failure, There was no further score this half, BScond Half.—Gymnasium kioked off, and it seemed as it ths game w»s going to ba very fast, but this was only of short duration, the players teeming to lack form. It was soon the Gymnasium’s turn to score, for one of their men getting a mark placed the ball for Staite, who kicked a splendid goal, making ths score. Gymnasium 6 points, Turanganui 1 point. After this the play was really not worthy of note, excepting a try secured by Nazer, from which Staite obtained a goal. Ail through the game there was too much appealing to the umpires, and cqaaeianally the referee bad to apeak to several of the players about it, telling' them there was no use In appealing for every little thing that occurred, which very often leads to unpleasantness and spoils a game,
