The Organ Recital.

Tub Organ Recital at Holy Trinity Church, on Thursday evening, was very successful. The church was full, and there was a capital programme for the occasion. Mr Airey presided at the organ, and the proceedings commenced with the singing of a hymn, in which the congregation heartly joined. Mr Airey then played a piece of his own composition, which was highly spoken of by those well able to judge. The singing of the anthem, “ Ye shall dwell in the land,” was very successful, and served as a good proof of Mr Bull’s ability in matters of this kind. The soprano part was taken bv Miss Williams, and the bass by Mr Palairet, the effect being excellent. The other anthem, “ I will give thanks," was equally successful. The solo “ Sound an Alarm,” gave Mr East an opportunity to use his fine tenor voice to the best advantage, which he certainly did do. The duet “ I sought the Lord,” was impressively sung by Mr and Mrs Palairet. Mrs Palairet also sang the solo, " The Morning Prayer,” and later on (in place Mrs W. Graham), "O Rest in the Lord.” "If with all your hearts,” was sung by Miss Holroyd, whose sweet and clear voice enabled her to do full justice to the selection. The quartette, “ God is a Spirit,” was the most pleasing item on the programme, the vocalists being Miss Holroyd, Mr and Mrs Palairet, and Mr Shelton. Miss Holroyd also sang the solo “Light inDarkness.” In the anthem “I will give thanks,” the organ accompaniment was supplemented by violins and violincello (by Messrs Palairet, sen. and inn, and Mr Parnell). “ The March of the Israelites,” was played on the organ and stringed instruments, the composition being magnificently performed. 'The musical programme concluded with a hymn. Besides those already mentioned, the following ladies and gentlemen were in the choir : Mesdames Carr, Davis, Greenwood, Hamblett, Morgan, Parris, and Watson; Misses Booth (2), Dawson, Hyett, Nesbitt, Walters, and Winchcombe; Messrs Chrisp, Dalrymple, Greenwood, Ratcliffe, Reynolds, and Parris.
