WANGANUI J.C. SPRING MEETING. The following acceptances have been received for the Wanganui Jockey Club’s spring meeting :—Trial Stakes ; Rewarewa, Weary, Empress, Boulanger, Omaha. Laurel, The Bean, Cruiser, and Eclat, Wanganui Stakes; Rewarewa, Lady Florin, Haeremai, Foxton, Omaha, Minnie, Laurel, and Eclat. Handicap Hurdles : Hossiteer, Kneecap, Oddfellow, Clarice, Owhaoko. and Maribyrnong. Maiden Plate; Empress, Montrose, The Bean, Retrenchment, Minnie, Doncaster, Weary, apd Legera.

THE V.B.C. MEETING. Melbourne, October 30.

Twenty fonr horses have paid up for the Melbourne Cup as follows: —Carbine, Melos. Cardigan, Lonsdale. Chicago, Benzon, Knight of the Garter, Rudolph, Carrington, Savanaka, Singapore, Prince Consort, Bravo, Oakleigh, Pikeha, Chaldean, Chetwynd, Richelieu, Antsus, Dunkeld, Menottij Tinlander, Bluenose, and Sequel, The training tracks at Flemington were very heavy yesterday morning, precluding the possibility of any time tests. Nevertheless, Antsus beat Manton in a sterling gallop of a mile and a half, which he accomplished in 3min 54eec. Richelieu did good sound work and his owner is extremely confident that the son of Richmond will run well up in the Derby. Rudolph had the advantage of Dreadnought this morning, and it is possible he may effect a surprise, Loyal Stone did a very bad gallop. Wycombe. Arsenal, and Melos, did good sound work, the latter seems io be in great buckle. In consequence of his having defeated Benzon in a mile and a half in 2min 47secs at Caulfield this morning, Dunkeld has been backed down to 7 to 1 for the V.B.C. Derby. Carbine and Melos are equal favorites for the Cup at 100 to 10 each. The other quotations are 100 to 8 against Singapore, Lonsdale, Benzon, Antsus, Chicago, and Cardigan, Lonsdale is being quietly supported for the Cup. October 31, The training tracks have dried up well, some good work was done this morning. Tartar got over a mile and a half in excellent •tyle, his time being 9min SOJeecs. Carrington and Tinlander went two miles strongly. Melos bad a five furlong spurt, which he covered comfortably in Imin Ssecs. Correze went a similar gallop, but finished all abroad, Aberdeen beat Dreadnought over six furlongs in Imin 23seos. Prelude and Utter only went three furlongs, their time tor this short spin being SSfsecs. Sequel has been scratched for the Melbourne Cup, for which Antsus is as good a favorite as anything,.he being backed down JROO t 0 12 ’ J®"-’A.t Flemington this morning Riverina ran furlongs in Imin. sJseo. Clare, in a similar journey, took Imin. fijsec. Arsenal and Wycombe did a mile In Imin. SOJsec, Melos covered a mile end a-quarter in 2min. ISseo., finishing like a lion. Richelieu, in a like gallop, occupied 2min. 19sec, while Sinecure and Singapore were 2min 21sec, for the distance, Copenhagen 2min. 22sec. Aberoorn and Sequel, in a mile and a-half rpn, were 2min. 46sec. Dreadnought did a bad gallop. The touts will not stand bim. Cardigan has arrived from Sydney; he is looking well. Antieus has still further advanced in the betting, and 100 to 14 is the best offer. Chicago has receded to 100 to 6. Late last night the bookmakers were loud their offers to take 600 to 400 about Dreadnought for the Derby. Lonsdale and Antsus are both becoming firmer in the betting for the Cup, for which 100 to 10 is the best offer about either. Carbine and Melos are now quoted at 100 to IS.
