Mr G. Willis' house, at Sheffield (formerly the Malvern Hotel) was burned down on Ba'nrday morning. Tbe fire ia supposed to ha«< been caused by ashes falling out from the kitchen grate. The building was insured for £BOO in the London and Lancashire offices. The furniture, which was mostly destroyed, was uninsured.

On Saturday morning a man (name Unknawn) died at Flynn's Hotel, Ashley. He put up there on Thursday evening, and on Friday afternoon Was found unconscious in the stable. Flynn did all that was possible for the mao, bat thepoor fellow never rallied. The cause of death was apoplexy. The cricket match, Wellington v. Canter bury, was. concluded on Saturday, and rmultedin favor of Canterbury by 39 runs, ths totals being Canterbury 249, Wellington IW.

EpKipnt, last night. The Auckland cricketers beat Otago by light wickets.

Wklunston, last night. Tho Aorangi, from Plymouth via Hobart, was berthed at one o'clock thio afternoon. There was a scarlet fever victim on board —a child—but as soon as tbe disease showed itself, every precaution was taken to prevent it spreading to tbe passengers, the mother god child being taken to tbe hospital and put •shots at Hobart.
