Txk Ball last night was a great success in every respect. Long before it was time to open the doors, they were thronged with people anxious to obtain good seats for spectators, and when the time for the first dance was at hand the City Bink presented a very gay end animated appearance. The floor was in fine condition, and there were over 160 dancers present. The preponderance of ladies was rather noticeable, and some naturally did not enjoy themselves as well as they would otherwise have done The gallery was packed with spectators. The hall was prettily decorated with evergreens,. flags waving overhead, with the word " Welcome ” showing prominently oppose the doorway, while above the entrance was the inscription, in gilt letters, “ Cead Milla Failthe." The stage was fixed up as a drawing room. Ths music was supplied during the evening by Messrs Spurdie, Sherrlff, aud Hall, and gave great satisfaction. Shortly before 11 o'clock an incident occurred which caused a little alarm to nervous people, but was goon treated from quite a humorous point of new. The gaeljgfit suddenly went out. leaving the hall in darkness top * brief space, the meter being short ot water, The trouble was soon rectified, and things went on as merrily as ever, Mr Craig had the management of the supper, and an excellent spread was provided, Mr Craig fully su* tsining ths reputation he has gained In his special line, and he made his portion of the entertainment ons of the most successful features. ____________
