THE FLOODS. Victoria will be represented at the Mining Exhibition in London. Influenza, which has appeared in epidemic form in Melbourne and Hobart, is of the Russian type. The prisoners in the Melbourne gaols, and men on the Orlando have been attacked. A rich reef has been discovered at Carnben Harbor. Some of the stone assayed 100 ounces of gold to the ton. At Charters Towers the Burdekin River was 72 feet high, and 10 miles wide, the town being under water. A large number of stock was drowned. The desolation in the country districts is appalling. Many miraculous escapes from death by drowning are reported. In one instance a man, his wife, and six children, being rescued by a passing boat, after clinging to a tree for 4S hours. Numbers of houses were swept clean off their foundations by the rush of water. Several fatalities are reported.
