AUSTRALIAN.

THE DANGERS OF ELECTRICITY. MORE VICTORIES FOR CARBINE. So far the South Australian elections have resulted favorably to the Government. A slight panic has been caused in Melbourne through the telephone wires coming into contact with the electric lighting wires, and thereby causing a number of incipient fires. Government intend to introduce a Bill to effectually supervise the overhead wires. Several members of the Victorian Ministry are suffering from influenza. One case of influenza at Port Melbourne proved fatal in four days. The Quetta inquiry has practically concluded. It is to the effect that there is nothing to prevent the captain of the vessel proceeding Home, and nothing in the evidence to sustain any allegation of default against either officers or pilot. At Sydney yesterday, the Auckland bred horse Carbine won the Cumberland Stakes, beating Dreadnought who was second, and Melos third ; also the All Aged Stakes, beating Prelude, and Correz.
