A Barque Wrecked.

EIGHT LIVES LOST. Inveboaroill, yesterday. News has been received of the wreck of the barque Emelie, which left the Bluff on the 25th inst. The day after leaving the vessel was struck by a squall and thrown on her beam ends. Captain Small and seven men were washed overboard, and the vessel drifted into Doughty Bay, about 40 miles from the Bluff. The survivors landed and walked to Mason’s Bay, where they fell in with a party of mutton birderr. The names of the survivors are—John Brownrigg (first mate), Joseph Green, George Cummins, and William Meek. The vessel was thrown on her beam ends, when clearing Foveaux straits, by a terrific | hurricane, and her decks and masts were torn 1 ont. Before the masts went over, one of the boats was got out, but was cut in two by a falling mast, and all on . board were drowned, with the exception of Green, who regained the vessel after being two hours on a piece of floating timber. The vessel drifted for five days and then went ashore on 31st March on Red Head, south point of Stewart Island. Cummins swam ashore and the others stuck to the vessel till the nexr day, when the vessel broke up and they landed on pieces of timber, having then been five daya without food and water. They wandered about the rocks seven days, living on two Maori hens and part of a dead seal found on the beach, and a few shell fish, and seaweed.
