Fancy Dress Ball.
At Patutahi on Friday night a fancy dress ball was held, being tendered by the gentlemen as a return to the ladies, for a very enjoyable gathering which the Utter had pro* moted. Friday night's assembly also proved a most sociable one, the evening passing away very pleasantly. There were about 42 couples present. The music was supplied by Messrs Bolton and Higgins, and Mr St«ven son acted as MO., a duty which he very efficiently carried out, and for which he earned the special thanks uf those present. The following ladles and gentlemen appeared in fancy costume Mrs W. Bailey, Maori woman ; Mrs Biiham, Old woman and the shoe ; Miss Tregea, Spanish lady ; Miss Morris,Night; Miss Kateßreingao, Highland lassie ; Miss Atkins, Josephine ; Mies Harris, Swiss peasant; Miss M. Farmer, Cqpid; Miss Biiham, Gipay fortune teller; Miss E. Biiham, Swiss girl; Miss C. Craill, Housemaid; Miss A. Carroti, Housemaid; Miee A» Stevens, Lady of the nineteenth century; Mr H. Brown, Knave of Hearts; Mr 11 Atkiflfli Samba ; Mr Harris, Jcckwy |
I Mr R. Smith, Prince Charming; Mr C. Biiham, Sepoy, Mr K. Atkins, Sailor; Mr W. Atkins, Australian stockman ; Mr W. White, Jockey ; Mr C. McFarlane, Masher; Mr W. Gedye, John Gilpin; Mr T. Gedye, Turk ; Mr T. Greene, Satan ; Mr W. Robb, Clown ; Mr Stevenson, Fisherman; Mr Fred. Carron, Day and night; Mr Albert Dette, Cricketer. It is hard to make a choice as to who was the best looking, but among those most admired were : Misses Harris, Nellie Morris, Kate Briengan, Atkins, M. Farmer, and E. Biiham ; and of the gentlemen most noticeable were Messrs P. Smith, W Atkins, and Finlay Harris, but the most comical costumes were those of Mrs Wm. Bailey, and Messrs T. Greene, Robb, J. Atkins, and F. Carron. The floor was in fine order for dancing purposes. There was also some vocal music during the evening, songs being sung by Messrs W. Stevenson, T. Greene, W. Robb and other gentlemen.
