Gisborne Phonographic Society.

The annual meeting of the above was held at the Society’s rooms on Saturday evening, all the working members and one honorary member being present. This Society proceeds with its work in a very unpretentious manner, but with results none the less substantial for that reason. The report and balance sheet were read and adopted, and indicated a very satisfactory state of affairs in all respects, special reference also being made to the generosity of Mr Maude, who has long favored the Society with the free use of a comfortable room. Mr Jones moved a vote of thanks to the officers, expressing regret that the President (Mr J. Drummond) was shortly to leave the district, and the remarks made were endorsed by the other members. A motion that in future it be optional to elect an honorary President waa put to the meeting and rejected, the members appearing to consider that the President should be an active worker in the Society, as heretofore. Mr J. DaCosta was then elected to the office. Mr E. Wilkinson was elected Secretary and Treasurer, Mr F. Faram Committeeman, and Mr C. Piesse Librarian. Mr H. T. Jones was elected Editor of the “ Phonographer/’ and Mr T. Brosnahan sub Editor. Mr F. Drummond was elected auditor. The incoming and retiring Presidents, respectively, made a few sensible remarks concerning the affairs of the Society and the meeting ter urinated a little later than usual.
