THE HOSPITAL.
The reports read at the last meeting of the Hospital Trustees create two extremes of feeling—in the first place sorrow at the fact that there has been such a large increase in the number of cases treated (the largest on record), and in the second place pleasure at the present management of the institution. When the trouble occurred recently we were blamed for stirring the matter up, and there were those who did not hesitate to assert that any change would be. for the worse. We have pleasure now in testifying that experience has not justified any of the gloomy forebodings. From all sides we hear the best of reports concerning the present internal management of the Hospital, and Miss Stewart has been wonderfully successful in endearing herself to the hearts of all those who have had the misfortune to be afflicted with sickness, and who have taken advantage of the Hospital. Nor are these persons alone loud in their praise : Dr Pollen gives his professional testimony, and visitors to the institution all have a good word to say for the matron and her staff. The large number of patients now in the Hospital has to be attributed to some extent to accidents that occurred, but there can be no overlooking the fact that there has been more sickness than usual at this time of the year.
