The libel action, Butcher against tha Wairarapa Daily (in which a farthing damages waa allowed) arose from the two following paragraphs (a) “It is whispered that a wealthy Eketahuna syndicate is about to start a purely local paper, to be known by the bloodthirsty name of the Bush Lance,’ or ‘ Butcher's Blade;’ (b) there is a serin, comic whisper of a syndicate being formed here (meaning Eketahuna) to start a paper. I hear that the plant can be had for next to nothing for a trial, as it ie now lying id'e somewhere this side of San Francisco. I cannot tell you for certain what the name of the venture will be, some s,y it is to be called the Bush Lance. If that is to bn the name, all those who do not subscribe will get a prod, Soma tell me it is to be called the * Bntoher’e Penny Advocate,' ”
