Waerenga-o-kuri Notes.
[from OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.! Thebe was a very well attended meeting of settlers in this and Haugaroa districts, held in Mr W. Harris' house, when it was unanimously resolved “That a p>ll he at once taken to raise the loan of €BOO in terms of the Local Bodies Act, 1886, and Amendment Act, 1889.” It was also resolved to ask tho Road Board to allocate the money to the roads in proportion to tho rents of deferred and perpetual leases. After the business of the meeting was over, several expressed the wish that the poll would be taken in the district, as that would only necessitate one person, the Returning Officer, making a journey, whereas if the poll is taken at Patutahi township, it will mean a journey for several. It is to be hoped that matters will sail smoithly, and the loan be raised, and our roads made—not improved—but actually made, as several settlers hive to travel for miles on a mare track. The general way of getting goods and fencing up is this, dray it as far as the house of Mr W. Harris (who kindly allows people ths use of paddock and storage shed) then sledge it about three miles, and finish the journey with paok horses. Talking about roads, passers by wonder hew it is that that boghole, “ The Gorge,” is not metalled, as all through it plenty ot metal is laying, almost calling out “ Come break me up, ami I will coat your road."
