Hospital Trustees.

An ordinary meeting of the Gisborne Hospital Trustees was held last evening. Present: Messrs Tucker (Chairman), C. A. Brown, Coleman, Lucas, Hepburn, Harris, Watson, and Nolan. The monthly report showed—remaining from last month 5, admitted 10, discharged 4, death 1, remaining at date 10. Dr Barker reported generally upon the several cases under treatment, the majority of them being pneumonia and bronchitis. There are no fever cases at present in tbe institution. The Treasurer reported a credit balance of £lBO 14s 5d and expected to receive during the fortnight subsidy ou last quarter’s receipts amounting to £137 13s 9d. Accounts amounting to £B7 12s were passed for payment, including the first instalment on account of the private telephone wire, the total cost of which will be £7O 16s, with an annual charge of £2. The balance sheet for the year ending March 31, duly audited, was submitted. It was decided to notify that it would be open for inspection at the office of the Secretary. The Visiting Committee appointed for the ensuing month were Messrs Hepburn and Harris. The Matron acknowledged with thanks four bound volumes of the Illustrated London News, from Mr O. C. Lucas. Mr Lucas in accordance with notice, moved that the meetings be held as heretofore, but the motion lapsed for want of a seconder. In accordance with notice Mr Coleman moved that the remuneration of the Medical Officer be reduced from £l5O to £lOO per annum, as from Ist October next. He argued that the Trustees should assist the local authorities in their endeavors to economise, further that as tbe telephone had now been erected a great saving of time to tha Doctor would result, and the present would be a favorable opportunity to take action, when a new appointment was necessary. Mr Lucas seconded, pro forma, but more for the purpose of moving an amendment to the effect that the salary be £125 per annum from October next, dispensing included, The amendment was seconded by Mr Harris, and it was carried unanimously.
