Sib,—There are times when personal feelings run away with discretion, but in the contest now to take place, reason should exercise the minds of all who possess the privilege of voting. Tbe men to represent us should bo men of character—that i* men - who, by their own personal characteristics, have shown to the world that they are able to compete with it, and hold their own. To place in the position of dictators men who have skilfully steered their way through life, is not only to recognise their merit*, but to secure a beneficial result. In All fair - play, without being hampered by fear or favor, let us secure men who have proved themselves thoroughly reliable, and who aio. not afraid to speak out plainly when occasion requires. The days of toadyism are numbered, and must be replaced by an independency which can only arise from thoroughly free and broad-thinking men, who, by tjieir actual knowledge will safely guide tbe corporation barque through all the dangers which may overtake IL—I am, Ac., Batefatcb,
