The betting at the post was even money agat Titan, 4 to 1 Gibraltar, 8 to 1 Paris, 10 to 1 the others From a beadful start Titan and Whimbrel were first to move. The latter, making the pace for Titan, who was eased off a little, rushed to the front, and as the field swept past the stand had three lengths the best cf Gibraltar, who was followed by Titan, Bradley, Gatling, and Victor Hugo. This order was maintained until the seven furlong post had been left behind, when Whimbrel improved- the pace, and Victor Hugo began to move up. Whimbrel was first into the straight, with Gatling, Titan, Gibraltar, and Paris close on his heels, but at the distance post Gibraltar and Gatling were on terms with him, and a desperate race ensued, resulting m a head victory for Gatling, who was a neck in front of W himbrel.
