By the action of Government in postponing the date of election, a large number of shearers will be practically disfranchised. “Mr R. Meredith, a prominent total abstainer and Orangeman, has decided to contest the Ashley seat at the general election.” That is the unique manner in which the telegraph agent announces a candidate. Being a total abstainer and an Orangeman are strange recommendations. We never knew anything in ttrtal abstinence principles to prevent their being adopted by Orangemen, while many total abstainers find do objection in Orangeism.
