A contributor to the Wanganui Herald sent tfae following:—“ A Dream ” on the V. R.C D -rby—Anoesley, I; Gatling, lud The Admiral, 3. » Mr Stead received an anonymous letter a short time ago, and it was published as a sample of what owners have to put up with. It evidently refers to Medallion, which was beaten by St. Andre* and Crack’ shot in the Hawke's Bay Guineas. However, Medallion's victory in the Canterbury Derby gives a new and strange interest to the letter It ia as follows:—" Sir,—l would not have thought you eould be guilty of such a thing as to take that colt un to H. B. and run him aa you did ; but I think you were had, aa you must not have thought of the winner, but of Crirekshot, with whom you cut. it up; but we will hear more about it. and I intend to write when the time comes, to the p iper here, and Australia* I remain yours, J.J.W,” Thia, letter qimc in an unstamped envelope, and bears the Dunedin postmark of the 9th October. In raplv to a private note from a Snorting writer Mr Stead rent 'he following answer, which wan then published io a contemporary ; lam disappointed, but not Mrprised, as the gallon I gave him on tbs Wednesday before he left ooovluosd me that the opinion I hid previously formed was correct, ■i that th» colt hsa lo«t his iwo-wsr-old form. Possibly this Is due to the infiuenr.a he suffirsd from, and possibly vs over rated him.”
