Fitzherbert, Speaker of the Legislative Council, is much better, and will shortly resume his duties. The German squadron left Wellington this morning for the South Seas, while tbe French warship ivolta ia now 9 n her way from Lyttelton, Farmers at the wool sale at Timaru give deplorable accounts of tbe state of tbe craps. Those on the sunny slopes are quite ruined, and a large proportion of the real will alao be if there is no rain in a week or two. The pastures are dry, and the supply of hay is giving out, The coast country was never so dry since it was settled. Tbe underground water supply is failing, and beds of swamps are dry and cracked, It has been decided to form a committee in Wellington to obtain subscriptions from all the colonies for a memorial to Mt S. D. Parnell, the founder of tha eight hours movement. Mr Parnell is, however, in a precarious condition, and little bops 0! his recovery is entertained.
