AUSTRALIAN.

A terrible tragedy is reported from Ballarat. Johnston, a well-known stock and station agent, first murdered his four Children (who were lying asleep in bed) by suffocating them, and the deed was carried out so quietly that the servant girl who was sleeping in the same room as the children was not aroused. Johnston then proceeded to his wife’s room and shot tier through the head, finally taking poison himself. Both he and his wife lived for a few minutes. The tragedy is believed to be committed during a fit of temporary insanity.
