As a vehicle was proceeding out to the country on Thursday evening a drunken man demanded that he should be taken in and given a ride. As he happened to be going the opposite way, even if the “ effect of the sun ” upon him could have been overlooked it would have been very inconvenient to comply with his demand. He was politely told that his desire could not he gratified, and this was like holding a red rag to an infuriated bull, excepting that none of the bovine species would have given mouth to the torrent of sulphurous language that was used. As this did not mollify those in the vehicle, the drunken rascal got a big stick, and swung along in hot pursuit of the trap, hut he wasted so much breath in abuse, anf his gait' was so uneven, that when a mile had been covered he felt the need of another drink, and; gave up the chase. As most of those in the conveyance were females, the experience was not a pleasant one to them.
