Canterbury A. and P. Association.

CHRVTcnuncH, March 19. The annual meeting of the C interbury Agticultural and Pastoral Association was held to-night. The annual report stated that the total number of entries for the show this year was 1429, against 1448 the previous year ; £6ll 19s was awarded in raon-y priz-s, as well as a number of champion gold and silver medals and books. The private prizes amounted to £223 13s. There are 141 lif j members and 469 annual members. A sufficient number of farmers not enmine forward for the propose I f-i»m competi'ion for 1890*1 the Committee had been cotnpollei to abandon the project. The cash accounts showed the receipts for the past ye *r to have been £3109 18-* and the payments £3261 18s 61. The actual defi ?it for the year is £5O 8s 61, most of which, however, has now been collected, Mr 8. Garforth was elected P<evident for the enduing year. The Committee were instructed to take most energetic steps towards promoting the establishment of public abbati irs. The annual Rim Fair, held under the auspice* of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association on the new show grounds to-day, was very successful. There was a large attendance of buyers and breeders from a l parts of the Colony. Over 3200 rams were entered, principally Lincolns, E»gli*h and Border Leiuesters Ths sale of Lincolns whs not so gaod as compared with the paac fl p years, sheep bringing on an average of en shillings less than last year. There was a keen demand for English and Border Leioesters, which all sold, the prices ramring from 2t» 7 guineas, the greater number bunging 3to 4 guineas. Th-re was a small entry of Shrop-hire Downs, and they met wi‘h keen demand, every s teep selling al muon higher rates than have ever rued here. Up to 14J guineas was patd for two 2-toolh rams. The sale of Romney Marsh and merino sheep was unimportant.
