A curious and startling case is shortly to he heard in the Courts of Lindon. A wealthy lady of Stafford, Mrs Culhcart, disappeared some time ago, and all the efforts of her relatives and friends faded to discover her whereab >u»f. ’ Quits recently, however, her friend* traced her to a lunatic asylum, f»h u had been confined at her husband’s instigation. Mrs Otfthcart is the posaoMHor of an estate valued at over 5,000,000 dollar*, which reverts to her husband if he oan have her certified to as < f unsound mmd. Mrs Cathcart's relatives insist that she i« in the full poaseiMion of her senses, and omspq iently a long and interest ing trial is expected. The admi-si >n of women to the Medical School of the John Hopkins' University is now assured. It is intended to eff >rd to ths women of America those advantages for superior mental training which they are now compelled to seek in the great medical schools ot Ku rope. In order to hasten the opening of the school, and to secure this ad ya need medical education for women at ths earliest possible date, it was proposed to rfine a sum of 100,000 dollars, and as much more a* pos-ible, to be offered to the Tiuscees for ■he use of tne Medical School, on condition that women whose previous training han been equivalent io hat of the preliminary medical course of the University be admitted to the sch >ol whenever it shall be open on the same terms as men, i'his was quickly raised, and accepted by the trustees, Michael Eyraud, the strangler, whose head was cut off in Paris, had his life insured for 10,000, dollars, but the companies refuse to pay, on the strength of a clause in every policy relieving the company*ot liability if the insured meets his death while violating the laws of tne country.
The charge for con versa’ioa by-telephone between Loudon and Paris is two dollars iof three minutes.
