Attempted Murder of an Old Man.

It appear, that -about .i<hi o’clock on Monday night someone outside the bou.a was beard calling out, "Come outside, I’ve got a letter tor you.” Mr Bitch accordingly proceeded in the direction ot the voice, and Mrs Patterson, an old lady living with him, lost sight of him for a lime. She however, in a tew minutes heard the sound ot blows, and also heard Mr Bitob call out •• Murder.” On going to bis assistance aho found the old man lying on the path qiite insensible, fata face bring ooverad with blood. On getting him back to the bouse she found that his pocket, bad bend eniptiol, and turned inHida out, and that hi. watch and chain had disappeared. The police were informed the next day, end their enquiries resulted in the arrest by Constable M-Kuight ot a young man named Thomae Fry, a labourer, who had bdeu in the employ of several termers iu the neighbourhood. Accused was brought Wore ihe Court at Papakyra, and remanded tor a week. The old mau is ina -sa4 ooadition, and is being attended by Dr B.wes, ot Otahuhi}.
