Borough Licensing Bench.
There was very little interest taken in Gisborne in the triennial election of the Licensing Committee for the Borough of Gisborne, and no party feeling of any kind was exhibited. The Committee elected without a contest may be rightly said to be a Moderate one, which is likely to be guided by the good sense of the majority of the members, without giving way slavishly to extreme views. The following condiuates were nominated, and there being only the required number they were declared elected
CANDIDATE, PROPOSER, SECONDER, D. Hepburn A. Taylor J. Harding G. Humphreys E. P. Joyce A. R Muir H Lewis W, H. Clayton T. Adams J. Maynard W, Parnell G. Mattewson M. G, Nasmith E, P, Joyce E. Hall
The Rev. Mr Raeburn has been elected chairman of the Wairoa Licensing Committee. The moderate members could not agree among themselves as to which should he proposed for the position, and the difficulty was solved by electing Mr Raeburn. The total abstinence party want to take extreme measures in regard to some of the licenses, but the moderate party is in a majority.
