The Census Returns.
the EDITOR. I I would like to refer attention to the unsatisfactory manner in which the census returns have been made in thia district. It is a most important thing from a local and Colonial point of view that correct returns should He made, and the district be as fairly represented as possible. Now, of one case at least I can speak from personal knowledge, three adults at Matawhero being ignored. I think it would be greatly for the benefit of the district if one pf the local bodies, or some individual in the community, were to take this matter up and invite all those whose names have not been recorded in the Census, to forward their names. If the returns cpuld not then be officially recorded we would at Igaqt have the satisfaction of knowing the population of the district. It must not be forgotten that the political representation of th° district is founded on a population baais, snd \yhere such great expense has to be inourrod in ascertaining the population, proportionate care should be exercised,—l am, &0., Elector. [We observe that in other places proper notice was given through the newspapers, asking anyone who had not received a paper to send in word.—Ed-]
